I had the opportunity to test and review the new CLIF Organic Energy Food product line a few weeks back. Now I’m back with another review and giveaway, this time for the CLIF Builder’s Bars. I’ve been using them for the past month during my everyday routine as well as pre/during/post workout and have been very pleased with my overall experience. If you’ve never heard of CLIF Builder’s Bars, they’re protein centric bars that are made for use during and after your workouts to help your body perform and recover. Here is a little information about their key features:
- 20g of high-quality protein to help build and repair muscle
- Carbohydrates to help you sustain your workout
- Zero grams trans fat and does not contain partially-hydrogenated oils or high fructose corn syrup
- Low glycemic
What Are They? When to Consume?
CLIF Builder’s is a great tasting, high-quality protein bar crafted with an optimal blend of ingredients specifically chosen to help promote muscle growth and total body fitness. These bars are built to be consumed while you’re working out and also within a 30 minute window post-workout to ensure that you maximize muscle recovery and growth.
One great thing about the CLIF Builder’s Bars is that they come in many different flavors. These include Chocolate Mint, Chocolate Hazelnut and my favorite Cookies ‘N Cream. The flavors of these bars makes them a huge improvement over other bars that I have tried in the past. The taste is much more appealing than some other brands and actually makes you want to eat them on a regular basis. In addition, they do not have the chalky aftertaste that frequently accompanies protein bars, which is a huge plus. CLIF doesn’t market these as meal replacement bars, but I did use them as a quick and easy meal a few times at work when I was pressed for time and unable to get out of the office. They also make great in-between meal snacks to tie you over and satiate your hunger.
I found these bars most useful post-run. I would go for a workout or recovery run after/before work and immediately follow that effort up with a full bar. The 20 grams of protein mixed with 26 grams of carbohydrates and 10 grams of fat provides a balanced mix of nutrients to assist in recovery. As CLIF recommends, I also suggest taking one Builder’s Bar within 30 minutes of your hard efforts to maximize the benefits they can provide.
Based on my experience with the CLIF Builder’s Bars I will definitely be getting some more and will continue to incorporate them into my training for my next ultra race, the USATF Trail 50K Championships at Tamalpa Headlands 50K in late August. A big thanks to CLIF for sending me some bars to try and also for providing a pack of Builder’s Bars for me to give away to one lucky reader. Comment on this post with what flavor you’d like to try and share this post for a chance to win. I’ll select the winner next week!
